Chili Chocolate Lava Cakes

  • 150g dark chocolate 
  • 125g unsalted butter 
  • A pinch of chilli powder (or cayenne pepper) 
  • 2 eggs 
  • 3 ½ tbsp caster sugar 
  • 70g self-raising flour 


  • Whipping cream 
  • Fresh berries 


  1. Beat the eggs and sugar until light and fluffy
  2. Melt the chilli, chocolate and butter in a bowl over Bain marie or in the microwave 
  3. Combine the two mixtures then fold in the flour 
  4. Grease 4 ramekins and fill in with the batter 
  5. Bake at 190 ̊C for 9 minutes 
  6. Turn ‘upside down’ after resting the cakes for 2 minutes 
  7. Serve warm with berries and whipped cream
